Love Layout

I just love the new "Love Story" collection and knew it would be perfect for some photos of a friend and her husband that I had recently taken. My favorite paper by far is the die-cut, scalloped edged circle paper. I really wanted to use it for this layout, but wanted more pink. So I trimmed out the inside of the circle so that I just had the red scalloped circle border. I then used the inside I had cut out as a guide to cut a large circle from the pink solid paper. Once I had adhered the pink circle on the base of my page, I adhered the red scalloped border using tiny pop-dots to give it just a little extra dimension.

Love_story_mj_love_detail2
After designing this layout, I thought it would be more impressive to add this to a frame, rather than just handing her a layout (since she doesn't scrapbook). When I told her about my idea, she thought it sounded like a great gift that she could give to her husband for Valentine's Day. So I pulled out one of my 12x12" oak frames, and spray painted it black and added the layout. Such an easy, fun idea that will look great hanging in their house.
Love_story_mj_love_framed
Instructions:
1. Trim away inside of scalloped circle die-cut paper and use it as a guide to cut a large circle from the pink paper. Adhere both to center of white cardstock base.
2. Trim away edges of 4x6" photos to fit under scalloped circle and adhere one on either side of layout in the middle of the page.
3. Cut a piece of red pattern paper, and 2 strips of scalloped edged paper and mat them together on white cardstock. Adhere to center of layout.
4. Staple black and maroon lace trim to layout.
5. Flatten metal rim heart using Tag Maker, and adhere to page. Add dimensional sticker and word fetti stickers.
6. Add names or initials to layout using chipboard letters.
7. Add a few heart mini brads to trim and a clear defined "love" sticker.
And as I bonus, I created a card to accompany the gift.

Things I Love Album - Week Four

The last two sections in our love book are “places” and “things.”  The pages in these two sections follow the same basic scheme as the “people” pages in the first section – you can refer to last week’s challenge to see the details.

I love the flexibility of being able to tweak things exactly how I want to include them in this album.  My first “place” page is actually entitled “home,” but I decided to take a bit of a different approach.  Instead of a photo of my actual home, I wanted to broaden the concept of home – thus the photo of the keys and the quote.  The other “place” and “thing” pages include titles, photos, and embellishments from the LOVE STORY line.

Week4_places_page1

Week4_places_page1_detail

One of the pages in this album is actually a pocket page.  I am including the pocket page in the “things” section of my album.  The “thing” I’m including on my pocket page is a collection of love letters.  I’ve written love letters to each of my family members and placed them inside envelopes.  Now the envelopes are tucked into the back of the album and they can read them anytime they want to.

Week4_things_pocket

If you have been joining me in the weekly challenges this month, you will now have a special album filled with all of the people, places, and things you love.  Place it somewhere you can look at it often.  I am sure t will bring you much joy and happiness as you look through your album and think of all the things you love and have to be grateful for.  And if you haven’t been joining me in the challenges, I hope you’ve discovered some ideas you can incorporate into your own scrapbook pages.

If you have specific questions, please feel free to contact me or check my blog for more ideas.  And be sure to post your pages in our gallery!

Love Story Layout

To many, February is known as the month of love. It's reminiscent of hand-written love notes, flowers, chocolates, and heart shaped sugar cookies packed with pink buttercream frosting and sprinkles. It's a time when we focus our attention and love on others to let them know we care.

Why not create a layout to help you keep the notes and memories that you either give or receive. This layout was created by Wendy Bertz.

Making_memories_valentine_layout__3

This layout is easy to create. Just follow the instructions below:

1.  Trim Kraft Paper to 9 1/2" x 12" and adhere to Love Story 12" x 12" Scalloped Square patterned paper.  At seams, adhere 1/4" strip of red cardstock.
2.  Cut Postcard out of Love Story 12" x 12" Postcard patterned paper and attach using brads from Love Story Mini Brad Value Pack.  Trim right side of postcard with a small piece of the Scalloped Square patterned paper.
3.  Attach a variety of Love Story Ribbons over Postcard with staples.
4.  Using Making Memories Tag Curler, attach Love Story Tag to red ribbon.
5.  Place title along top of ribbon and bottom of Postcard using Love Story Sticker Chipboard Alphas.
6. To finish layout, attach Love Story Pebble Clip to top of Postcard and tuck a special note to the one you love under the postcard.

Love Story Layout

Everybody is always telling us that they love our little Nathan. He just has this personality that is impossible not to love! He acts so grown up and has the funniest little voice. Every time he talks he makes us smile. He is also very friendly and is quite the little charmer.

When I saw this photo I immediately thought of doing a page about the fact that we all adore him. The journaling reads, "Can't help but love you - your smile, your voice, the sweet things you say, your tender heart!!" I also hung my page out in our kitchen area on the wall where we can see it and enjoy it during the Valentine's season.

Feb_blog_1

Feb_blog_2

So, come on and join me and do a page about someone in your life that you can't help but love. The new line of Valentine's products are so much fun and so cute!! I also pulled out one of the older valentine's products - the large chipboard heart. I still love these. I painted it with the pink lipstick paint and then gave it a light top coat of rose petal specialty paint. I can't get enough of this metallic pink paint! I use it on everything lately. Have fun.

Instructions:

  1. Paint chipboard heart with pink lipstick paint. Once dry give it a light second coat with the rose petal specialty glaze.
  2. Attach 6x6 piece of white eyelet paper to right side of page.
  3. Attach chipboard heart over white paper.
  4. Attach photo to left side of page overlapping the heart.
  5. Cut two pieces of ribbon to about 6 inches and attach underneath photo.
  6. Place striped sticker behind chipboard heart and attach two brads to heart.
  7. Attach to page at the right of the photo.
  8. Attach word fetti to right side of photo above heart.
  9. Cut one side from jigsaw frame and paint the edges with pink paint.
  10. Attach it under the photo and use marker to write caption.
  11. Attach jigsaw parentheses shapes to left and right side of page.
  12. Apply rub-ons to top of photo.
  13. Use marker to journal on the large chipboard heart.

Hugs,

Maggie

Things I Love - Week Three

This week, we’re going to create pages about all the people we love.  I decided to use three random photos of each person.  Each page will be different other than the number of photos.  Each page has a patterned paper background – some pages will have two patterns for the background.  Every page will have a large cream cardstock block with machine stitching around the edges.  Each page has a name spelled out with stickers or chipboard letters.  Every page also includes several various embellishments from the LOVE STORY line.

Week3_people_page1

Week3_people_page1_detail2_2

Week3_people_page1_detail

Another great option with this post-bound album is that you are able to re-arrange the pages inside – I have more “people” I wanted to create pages about than “places” or “things,” so I simply put more of the blank album pages behind the first tab and fewer behind the other two tabs.

I am opting not to include journaling on these pages…I want it to be more of a picture book…I’ll save the journaling and stories for another album altogether.

I am sharing the first two “people” in my album here.  If you’d like to see more of my “people” pages, you can visit my personal blog.  Start taking or gathering pictures of the places and things you love for next week’s challenge.  Be sure to upload your “people” pages to the MM gallery!

Ribbon an Oldie but Goodie

We all have tons of ribbon in our scrapbooking stash, right? I love using ribbon because it's an easy way to add the perfect touch to any project. I love the color and texture that ribbon adds. After using it on a project, I have a hard time throwing ribbon away, even if only a tiny piece is left. Keisha created this page as a way to use some of those smaller pieces of ribbon.

Inspiration from Joey

We've all seen them. The heart-shaped boxes of chocolates that line the supermarket shelves a little after the new year. They tempt us with their sweet insides and with the appealing red, foiled packaging that not only holds the possibility of love, should someone give us one, but also chocolate. Who needs love when there's chocolate I ask you?

Thus, we have February's Inspiration with Joey. I didn't feel I had to buy a box to photograph for the inspiration - we all know what they look like. With the theme being "things I love" I right away thought of my kids - the little sweeties (most of the time). I literally copied the idea of little chocolate sweets in a heart-shaped box for my page. I used the new Making Memories Love Story line for papers and embellishments. On a side note...have you seen the fantastic packaging for embellishments MM has? The little jars of goodies with paper flowers, lovely buttons, and felt die cut shapes. LOVE them. Anyway, I also used ribbon from the (note)worthy line and a strip of black pattern paper from the Halloween line along with pebble brads (I can't live without these - especially the black and white ones).

Feb_2008_inspiration

First, draw a heart on the back of black cardstock - use pencil and you can easily see your line. Cut it out along with around 16 pictures. I used a colluzle to cut my circles and varied the sizes slightly. I also cut 16 circles from pink and maroon cardstock in a slightly larger circle and used scallop scissors around the edges to make mats for the photos. Arrange the pictures on the heart and fill in any blank space with buttons, flowers, and brads. You could use fewer pictures and more embellishments too if you wanted. I sewed the gathered ribbon around my heart to make it really secure. Finally, assemble the page and add your journaling.

Have fun. This page reminds me of the fabulous quote from Forrest Gump: "Life is like a box of chocolates...you never know what you're going to get." Well said. You never know what you will get when you set out to create either! Joey

A FOLLOW UP FROM CHA CONTEST WEEK

In reviewing many of the posts and emails we received during the CHA contest series, we discovered a few questions that still needed answers. A few worth noting:

ABOUT THE SLICE:

  • When will the Slice be available? The Slice will begin shipping to your local retailer in July 2008.
  • How much will the Slice cost? The Slice will retail for $149.99.
  • How much will the design expansion cards cost? Each expansion card will cost $39.99, and will feature more than 100 different designs and fonts, each of which can be die-cut in sizes ranging from ½” to 4”.
  • Where will I be able to purchase the Slice? Based on the response we saw at the Craft & Hobby Show, the Slice will be available through your local craft and/or scrapbooking retailer. As with all of Making Memories products, you will also be able to purchase the Slice through our web site at www.makingmemories.com
  • I’m already a Slice-a-holic! We’ll be setting up a recovery program for that, for sure. Please stay tuned to the blog for further information and support!

ABOUT CHA:

  • Can I come to CHA? CHA, the Craft & Hobby Show, is a trade-only event at which buyers meet with manufacturers to purchase products for the coming season. It is not open to the public. If you are interested in attending, your best bet is to start working for a retailer!

ABOUT THE MAKING MEMORIES BLOG CONTESTS:

  • Was my email blocked by your spam filter? Even though these contests moved very fast, the email service we used – inbox.com – has a fantastic feature that allows us to import anything from the spam filter directly into our inbox. So if your email arrived before the “STOP” notice was posted – whether you received a spam notification or not – your name was still included in the drawing!
  • You asked for phone numbers, but I’m overseas. Will you call if I win? This contest was definitely open to everyone who participated, regardless of location. If your name and/or email had been selected, you would have received the call! We do ship overseas and we made sure that every contestant was given equal odds of winning.
  • I accidentally sent two emails because my first didn’t have my phone number/had the wrong subject line. Am I disqualified? This contest was about having FUN! So we eliminated any DUPLICATE emails, but left one email from everyone who participated. Therefore, we did not disqualify you for sending two emails – we just made sure that everyone was given a fair shot!
  • Pick me! Oh, we sure wish that was possible! Unfortunately, we also have to pay some of these fabulous people who create all these delicious products, so we’re unable to give away all that we wish we could.

Q&A

I've received lots of e-mails asking exactly which album I used for my "Things I Love" challenge this month.  I used the 9x9 Kraft album from the Boho Chic line.    I love that it's easy to alter and has fun pages inside - pages with tabs and even a pocket page!  And if you haven't heard, MM just released  more Kraft albums with scallop and ric rac edges. As soon as I get my hands on one, I'm going to create another album!

Also, I used regular adhesive to attach the paper to my cover, but you could definitely use something like Mod Podge to make the cover a bit more durable.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Wendy

Things I Love Album - Week Two

This week, we're focusing on the divider pages for each section. The album I chose to use has three tabbed sheets included, so I decided to go with it and choose three categories in which to separate my album. People. Places. Things

Week2_tab_peopleWeek2_tab_placesWeek2_tab_things

Begin by cutting a piece of patterned paper to size (about 8 ¾” square).  Because I always like to add some type of stitching to my projects, each page has with a 3 ½” square of cream cardstock sewn somewhere on the page (each page varies, as you can see).  Next, cut a piece of coordinating paper (about 1 ½” high x however long the word is) for each category title. Round the corners and then use the little heart brads to secure each title to the background page.  And finally, each page has an additional embellishment near the top of each square.  The first page (people) includes a heart clip with a piece of ribbon tied on.  The second page (places) simply uses a dimensional sticker.  The final section page (things) has a dimensional tag with another dimensional sticker layered on top and a ribbon tied through.

Week2_tabs2_2

To finish each divider page, add the same subtitle to each tab.

If you’re working on this challenge, be sure to upload your pages to the MM Gallery or post a link to your pages in the comment section below.  To prepare for next week’s challenge, start gathering photos of all the people you love!

CONGRATULATIONS HOLLY!

We figured we'd get that up right away before anyone else had a heart attack. (Like us!)  Holly was a delight and definitely did her share of screaming for all of us.  We've got a recording of her reaction that we'll post online just as soon as we can.

We cannot thank all of you enough for making this CHA one of the most fun events in our history! We've had a fantastic time with you and look forward to doing this again real soon. In fact, make sure you do sign up for our newsletter by visiting HERE  so you know about all of our upcoming contests and promotions.

This has been such a treat for all of us that we can assure you we WILL be doing this kind of contest again very soon.  In the meantime, we'll be adding to the blog for the next few days to include additional information about the SLICE, as well as more videos and pics that we're bringing home from CHA.

Calling all artists:  If you want to have your work published on the Making Memories blog, make sure to check back right here on Friday. We'll be sending a call for pages, so keep a watch for that.

Thank you again, everyone, for this fantastic experience!  It's been a joy!

Well, the call just went out ...
Congratulations TO:
Holly Lane

DID SOMEONE WANT TO WIN A SLICE TODAY!?

This is it. The Moment. The Event.

Well, at least it's a big deal to us!

We're doing this one by email. We're leaving the contest open for FIVE minutes.  We'll post the words "STOP" when five minutes are up.  Here's how it's going to work:

1) Send an email with the subject line: "SLICE ME" to MAKINGMEMORIES@INBOX.COM

2) Include your PHONE NUMBER in the body of your email!

3) Send only ONE email, please!

4) We will take at LEAST 10 minutes after we say "STOP" to go through all the messages and ensure that we do not have duplicates. We will then CALL the winner (and prepare to be recorded ... we want to HEAR your reaction!).  After that, we will post the winner's name just as fast as we possibly can!

We're watching our in box for your message.  GOOD LUCK!!!!!

STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!

JUST WARMING UP ...

As we prepare for the grand prize finale for the day, we thought we'd share a phone call that Margie took from one of our winners on Day One!

TRAVEL PLANS

No, we're not packing our bags to leave CHA just yet. We're talking about our new travel line called "Passport."  We thought you all would like to check out this fabulous collection that has been getting all kinds of "oohs" and "aaahs" at the Show - especially the die-cut shaped papers.

Check out the whole line here:

CONGRATULATIONS, JEANETTE!!!

So adorable!!

LET'S DO A QUICK CONTEST RIGHT NOW!

We're down to the last hour or so before the Show closes.  So we're going to give a few items away real quick ... and then it'll be time for the SLICE grand prize.  (I'll give you a hint.  We'll do the drawing SOMETIME between 2:00 and 3:00 PT ... So if you have to leave for a while, now you know the timeline!)

While we're waiting, let's do a quick random drawing for another ANIMAL CRACKERS collection.  We figured we whet your appetite with the preview, so now we'll give one lucky winner a great assortment for their very one.

You've got just a few minutes to start posting.  Post as many times as you want. And then we'll add the word "STOP" to this message.  Are you ready? Set? GO!

OKAY ... STOP!

A LITTLE CRACKERS

It's been a long few days at the show, and we're realizing just how fried we must be, to not have yet shown you a closeup look at our new Animal Crackers line.  Silly us!

Meet "Ella" and "Jack," two different color and theme variations in the Animal Crackers collection.  Here at the Show, people have flipped over the die-cut papers - with shapes cut directly into the designs. And then there's our flocked and varnished cardstock as well ... also huge hits among buyers here!

Both "Ella" and "Jack" give a whimsical take on the baby theme, merged with a 21st century interpretation of animal-cracker shapes such as giraffes, hippos, alligators, zebras, and lions.  Make sure to take a good look at the "quilts" we have in the booth - they're constructed exclusively from the Animal Crackers line.

Start watching your store shelves early Spring, when Animal Crackers is scheduled to arrive.

ARE YOU READY?  THE LOADED RUNWAY ROLLER GOES TO ...

STEPHANIE MEADOWS!

Even my hands were sweating through this, you all!  This is thrilling on our end as well!

More to come ... including the ultimate grand prize - in just a little while

TIME'S UP!

Now once again, we beg your patience. There are more than a few duplicates in our in-box here, so we have to spend some time going through these and weeding them out so we know everyone has exactly the same odds!

We'll be at LEAST 15 minutes (there are a LOT MORE here than we even expected!).  So please be patient.  You're all the best!

YES, IT'S TORTURE

You've still got time to enter the contest.  Send us your email at MAKINGMEMORIES@INBOX.COM.

IT'S NOT THE "GRAND" PRIZE ... BUT IT'S PRETTY HUGE!

Okay everyone, here we go.  Another contest right now.  We're doing this one by email.  And this one is going to take a while.  Send an email (JUST ONE!) to MAKINGMEMORIES@INBOX.COM with the subject line "LET'S GET ROLLING"

And then ... wait!  (Sorry - it's torture, I know!). This one is going stay openfor at least an hour.  We're opening it up for everyone in a few countries to give the "world" a chance at winning this prize.  Oh - and what is it?

Runway_roller_green A RUNWAY ROLLER - FILLED with Making Memories treats, just like you've seen on our videos!

The big ones are worth the wait, yes? (We sure hope you think so!).

So send us your email now.  Remember - enter only ONCE!  (We'll be checking!).

See you all in a while!

REMINDER: SEND YOUR EMAIL TO:  MAKINGMEMORIES@INBOX.COM (Don't leave your email address in the comments ... you won't be entered to win!)

COLIN SPEAKS FRENCH?

Well, not really.  But he did happen upon two lucky CHA attendees from France who were shocked to learn that they won a suitcase's worth of Making Memories supplies.  They may not speak much English, but joy is a universal language!

A bientot!

SO, YOU KNOW HOW MUCH WE LIKE CONTESTS ...

Since we're between contests right now, we thought we'd let you know that we really do like these kinds of giveaways ... we do them at least once a month as it is.  Usually the only way to find out about them, though, is by signing up for our newsletter.  Once a month, we send copies of "MM Insider" to our readers, and offer up hints and tips about the latest techniques, features about products that are shipping that month, and of course ... CONTESTS!

So please take a moment to sign up for your newsletter if you are not already a subscriber! And please put "2008 CHA Blog" in the box asking how you heard about it.

(Don't worry - you've got time to sign up! We're still at least one hour away from our next contest.  It's 9:30 a.m. PT here right now.)

SIGN UP HERE!

Congratulations to ...

More fun to come in just a bit!

OUR FIRST CONTEST OF THE DAY

Desktop_organizer Let's get this party started this morning with a heapin' sized box of ... boxes.  Storage, that is.  We're giving three lucky winners today a Desktop Storage set of their very own.  We'll do this one with a random drawing.  You'll have about three minutes to start posting comments to the message board.   When time's up, we'll post a "Stop" message at the bottom of this posting.  And then we'll take a few minutes to throw darts at our computer and select the winners.

Everyone ready?  Start posting ... NOW!

OKAY ... STOP!

We'll be back with winner's names in just a minute! :-)

It's a Good Morning!

We're gearing up for the last day of CHA, and we're more jazzed now than we were on day one!  On site, we'll be sending Colin out to surprise more lucky attendees with thier Runway Rollers (filled with tons of treats, of course).  We'll be demonstrating the new Animal Crackers line as well as some of our best-selling collections.  And of course, we'll be giving a few lucky attendees a Slice personal die-cutting machine of their own.

We're not leaving you out, though!  We've got one Slice to give away here sometime later today.  There's no knowing when it will happen ... or how!  In the meantime, we'll have plenty of other giveaway events, a few fun slideshows and postings from our team on-site, and another video or two to share.  Stay tuned with us today!  It's going to be a fun one!

THE SLICE IN ACTION:

February 12, 2008

A Fun Colin Video for the Night!

Colin's been working the Show floor once again - and this unsuspecting CHA attendee was definitely taken by surprise!

WHEW!

How did you guys do that!  I see 900+ posts here right now.  That's incredible!

So you ready?

The Desktop Carousel goes to:  Julie (iamstmpin@aol.com)

and Noteworthy goes to:  Deanna Misner!

Congratulations you two! Please email me at MAKINGMEMORIES@INBOX.COM with your shipping information (Julie and Deanna, that is!)  And to everyone else, thank you SO much for playing with us today!  We'll be back tomorrow.   And sometime ... during the day ... we'll be giving away

A SLICE!!!!!!

Yeah!  That's what we said!  We get to give away a SLICE tomorrow!  Stay tuned!

ROUND AND ROUND IT GOES (THIS is the contest!)

NOW!  It's our last contest for the night.  And we're giving away not one but TWO prizes ... a Desktop Carousel to one lucky winner, and a full-blown collection of NOTEWORTHY for someone else.

So we've selected two different numbers here at random (just like we explained below, times two). So here's your chance. Start posting your comments.  We'll edit this post when it's time to close it down.  And then we'll start counting down to the winners.

Are you ready? Start posting!!

OKAY ... TIME TO STOP!  Take a break for just a bit ... we'll announce winners as soon as we can!

DEMOCRACY RULES

In the spirit of this election season, we think it's only fair that your vote is heard.  So the next contest will be completely and utterly RANDOM!  We've picked a number here on our end.  We obviously won't tell you what number that is (yet). So ... when we start the next contest (sometime in the next 10 minutes or so), we'll choose one person who posts in the comments section, counting down from the top.

When we open the contest, start posting comments at will ... multiple comments are accepted. We'll edit our original post to tell you when the posting time has closed (about 5 or so minutes ... maybe a few more). And THEN we'll count down to the selected number.  How does that sound?  We hope it's fair - it's the best we could come up with at this late (tired, hungry, blurry eyed) hour!

See all of you in just a few minutes!

The Making Memories Prize Patrol Strikes Again - at CHA

While we've been having all the fun here, I've neglected showing off all the fun happening at the Craft & Hobby Show!  Colin and his crew went out in search of some Slice-shirt-wearing guests, and he found a perfect his-and-hers combination.

We'll get back to our own giveaways in just a little while - sometime again after at least another hour has passed (it's 5:15 p.m. PT right now).  There's one more prize to be won for the night.

And make sure to stay tuned tomorrow (after a good night's sleep, of course) because we've got a mack-daddy prize package for one lucky blogger to celebrate the last day of the Show.

And the Winners Are ...

This took a little longer to complete because we had to track down a manager and get the okay to add five more winners.  Wish it could have been even more.  But we're awarding to the first 15 who wrote in! And they are ...

WE REALLY ARE LISTENING!

Everyone can thank Bobbi in KY for this one ... Yes, let's do it.  The next TEN people who email me right now will receive one of these darling NOTEWORTHY EMBELLISHMENT JARS!  It's filled with buttons, blossoms, and felt flowers.  So send me an email right now with the words "A NOTEWORTHY CONTEST" in the subject line to MAKINGMEMORIES@INBOX.COM!

STEPHANIE PATTERSON!
