What's New in March

This month we have a lot to be excited about. The new product that you will soon see in your local stores is no exception.  Look for the following:

NEW EMBELLISHMENTS

The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is often found in the details. Unique details like brads, epoxy shapes, glitter clears and more. Making Memories line of embellishments can transform unadorned projects into extraordinary keepsakes. Look for Brad Value Backs, Jigsaw Shapes, Epoxy Shapes, Glittered Clears and Die-Cut Glitter Alphas.

Guest Designer Nichol Magouirk

Today we are pleased to have Nichol Magouirk as our guest designer.

Mm_layout_2

One of my favorite things about Making Memories products is how well product from several collections can work together. For this layout I used Funky Vintage Patterned Papers and embellishments but threw in some Fresh Anthology and Noteworthy products along with other Making Memories letter stickers and rub-ons. Don't be afraid to leave a little "white space" on a layout. To balance out the photo and journaling heavy right side of the layout, I kept the embellishments to a minimum on the left side and used the space in between two large chipboard brackets for prominent journaling.

Mmlayoutleftsideweb_3

Mmcloseupleftside2_2

Instructions:

For the left side of the layout.

1.Trim a 2" x 12" strip from the lime green patterned paper and set aside.

2. Trim a 1" x 12" strip from yellow patterned paper.

3. Adhere yellow strip and lime green paper to Berry Floral paper as shown. Machine stitch along paper's edges.

4. Print title on white cardstock and adhere under transparency tag.

5. Layer title with a defined sticker, rub-on scroll and button in the top left corner of layout.

6. Adhere Fresh Anthology chipboard brackets in the center of the lime green patterned paper.

7. Use chipboard alphas, letter stickers and rub-ons for journaling.

Mmlayoutrightsideweb_2

Mmcloseupleftside

Mmrightsidecloseup2

For the right side of layout.

1. Take the  2" x 12" strip from the lime green patterned paper and adhere along the left side of one sheet of Berry Floral patterned paper.

2. Trim a 10" x 10" square from the brown mini dot patterned paper. Trim 2 - 1" x 10" strips from the yellow patterned paper.

3. Adhere the yellow strips underneath the edge of the brown mini dot paper as shown and adhere the whole thing to the background. Machine stitch along the top and bottom borders.

4. Layer ribbons from Fresh Anthology and Funky Vintage Trim cards along the left edge of the brown mini dot paper as shown. Stitch buttons over all ribbons.

5. Paint chipboard scroll with Chartreuse Funky Vintage paint, let dry completely.

6. Adhere photos as shown. Use rub-ons to add date to border of large photo. Adhere Fresh Anthology photo corner stickers to the two bottom corners.

7. Print journaling on

5th Avenue
spiral journaling page. Adhere to layout.

8. Adhere brown velvet initial sticker to the yellow flocked sticker. Wrap string around large circle tag rim. Place flocked sticker inside rim to create a custom tag.

9. Adhere painted chipboard scroll and tag accent to layout as shown.

Thanks Nichol for sharing your work.

Spring Layout

Garden_party_spring_3

The Garden Party collection is one of my new favorite lines these days. Every time I go to do a layout, I seem to automatically pull out these papers and embellishments. They have such fun, bright colors that I am just loving right now. Here in California, we have had some gorgeous weather these past few weeks. It's as if spring has already come. It's been so nice to get outside and enjoy the sunshine and the fresh air. And my favorite part is that I can finally take some fun photos of my girls outside. I'm all about outdoor photography (partly because i can't take a decent photo inside the house!), so it's so nice to get back out here. I took these photos of my girls, Alyssa and Sarah, over the weekend while they were playing outside and this collection was perfect to scrap their first springtime photos of the year.

Today we are lucky to have Stephanie Pouliot as MM’s guest designer.

Beauty_1_2

True friendship between two people is a wonderful thing.  It is something to cherish, respect and admire.  No person, in this lifetime should be without that special someone whom they can think of as their best friend.  To have that friendship 4 times over however, is truly a blessing.  Through the laughter and the tears, the five of us are together to offer support, lend a hand and cheer each other on though our life's journey.  Unconditional and without judgment, the 5 of us share a bond that runs deep into the core of our souls.  For this friendship, and these ladies, I am so thankful.

Chasing Butterflies

Spring is just around the corner and lately I find myself inspired to create layouts with bright colors and fun embellishments.  I can't think of a better way to say good-bye to winter than to dig into some cheery scrapbook supplies!  This page is a tribute to our visit to the local butterfly conservatory where we encountered several species of butterflies.  Although I am terrified of these insects, I won't hesitate to incorporate them into my scrapbooks.  What a colorful way to brighten any page.

Jillgodon_butterflies_web_2

For my butterfly , I used my Spring foam stamp set and stamped the butterfly images onto light pink cardstock using Scrapbook Colors Paint.  While the paint was still wet, I shook some pink shimmer over my stamped image to add some sparkle.  Once they were dry, I cut my butterflies out and embellished them with buttons.  To add depth to my page, I adhered the butterflies to my layout using foam squares and completed the look with gem stickers, to highlight a flight path.

I love how versatile foam stamp embellishments can be.  You can re-create the look using any shape or color you need to suit your pages!  Shapes can be embellished with gems, buttons, ribbon, rub-ons, stickers, flowers - the possibilities are endless.  Experiment with your foam stamps today and have fun.

Guest Designer Cathy Pascual

Today we are lucky to have Cathy Pascaul as our guest designers. Cathy is using the Noteworthy program for her project.

Sweetdreamsofia_2

I mounted my photo on a piece of patterned paper. I scalloped one side (free-hand with scissors) and punched holes. I added a photo corner on the top right corner before adding the photo.

Sweetdreamsd1_3

I slipped a Noteworthy journaling page underneath the photo mat. Along the bottom of the photo I added three trims using staples and glue dots to adhere. On top of the photo I used two brackets to frame the photo and added alpha stickers to spell out my title. For the smaller words I made my own little stickers by writing the words out then snipping each letter.

Sweetdreamsd2_2

For the circle stickers in the corner I hand-stitched on top of two of them and stapled one of them. I wrote journaling around the circle stickers and the journaling page. Finally I used a distressing tool to rough up the edges of the background paper.

Thanks Cathy!

Just as a reminder, if you want to be featured on the blog, make a comment with your blog address.
